Michael Blackledge, M.S.

I have been building websites since the ’90s. I love the web. I love websites. I am a member of the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, and voting member of the Webby® Awards. Over the course of my 20+ year career as a software engineer and web developer, I worked on hundreds of interactive video games and websites. I’ve developed video games and software for Sony, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, and built websites for photographers, filmmakers, artists, and universities. As a Program Dean at The Los Angeles Film School, I was the principal creator of the first interactive entertainment degree program in Hollywood.
In 2012, I went looking for a more meaningful way to pursue my desire to help address the big global issues through social change, and headed to New York City to attend graduate school at The New School. There, I studied at the intersection of documentary media and technology and cultivated my passion for the Web and social impact. In 2015, I created a web agency that later morphed into WebsiteSteward, and built (and continue to build) websites and ventures aimed at environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship, and social change. I am also the founder/co-founder of Nuropals.org, a social platform for neruodivergent people, HikeSwap.com, a peer-to-peer marketplace for recycling outdoor gear, and TelescopeTrader.com, a peer-to-peer marketplace for recycling astronomy and astrophotography equipment.
